Volunteer Info – What Qualifications do I need?

The Faustina Hockey Club is a 100% volunteer run organization. Faustina is comprised of volunteers, club members and the club executive.

We have a robust volunteer base that assists with various tasks such as time keeping, assistant coaching, and helping at practices or with fundraising.

All volunteers who interact with kids are required by the governing bodies of Hockey (Hockey Canada, OHF, GTHL) to meet certain requirements.  These are listed below.

All team officials and volunteers over the age of 17 must register as a volunteer with Faustina.  

This is required for insurance purposes; all mandatory waivers must be completed with the registration.

Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) Requirement 

All team officials and volunteers who interact with kids are required to have a cleared VSC police check result.  This document (PDF format only) is valid for three hockey seasons.  In addition, every team official and volunteer will complete an annual online OHF Declaration in the OHF Portal.

The Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) is responsible for the screening of all VSC documents.   Individual hockey associations such as Faustina are no longer involved with the VSC screening process.

VSCs are received from the police agency in the jurisdiction in which you reside.  If you live in Toronto, it is the Toronto Police Service (http://www.tps.to/police-checks); in Mississauga, it is the Peel Regional Police (https://rec-check.peelpolice.ca/).  Please be aware that the police check process can take up to 8 weeks, depending on time of year.

OHF Centralized Screening Policy

For the 2026-2027 season, you will need

1.       A valid VSC in PDF format.

• If you already have a VSC dated after May 31 2024, it should still be valid but you must be able to provide a PDF copy of the cleared form for uploading to the OHF Portal
  • If the point above is not met, you must obtain a new VSC.
    • The VSC process is online.  When you submit and complete the VSC request, keep the receipt (in PDF format) in case it is needed. 
    • For Toronto Police Service requests, you will need the TPS OHF Agency Code: 202309TPSON6BCE7
    • Once you receive the cleared VSC document from the applicable police agency, you will go into the OHF Portal (see link below) and upload the VSC result in PDF format.
  • If you are getting a new VSC and if you are required to submit a volunteer letter indicating that you are a volunteer and the VSC is being done to be in compliance with the OHF, you can find the volunteer letter at this link:  https://www.ohf.on.ca/risk-management/vulnerable-sector-checks-vsc/

2. Your Hockey Canada ID Number

• If you do not know your HCR ID, please email Donna ([email protected]).
  • Please do not create a new one.

NOTE:  As per the OHF Policy, you cannot be rostered as a team official unless you have gone through the screening process and both your VSC Form and the online Declaration have been approved by the OHF.

Course Requirements 

• Shift Forward: Evolving Hockey Culture  (2 hrs $30.50 tax incl) OR previously obtained Respect in Sport – Activity Leader
• Gender Identity and Expression Course (2 hrs – No cost)

Shift Forward replaces Respect in Sport – Activity Leader.  Anyone who previously completed Respect in Sport – Activity Leader can use this course through to the end of the 2027-2028 hockey season.

Fees for CDP/Select coaches should be incorporated into the CDP/Select team’s budget. Fees for House League coaches will be reimbursed by Faustina; please contact Donna ([email protected]) upon completion of the course. 

The fee for each of Coach 1 and Coach 2 need only be paid once; there is no charge for additional pathway modules.  Volunteers will go back into their Spordle account to complete additional pathway modules (In the current season, you can see these under active clinics under your dashboard.  If completed in a previous season, you can go to the calendar section to find the coach course).

U7 and Below

• ​​Hockey Canada Coach 1 – must complete U7 Pathway Module (4 hrs $101.70 tax incl) OR previously obtained Coach Level 1 

U8/U9​​

• ​​Hockey Canada Coach 1 – must complete U9 Pathway Module (4 hrs $101.70 tax incl) OR previously obtained Coach Level 1 

U10/U11

• Hockey Canada Coach 2 – must complete U11 Pathway Module (4 hrs $113.00 tax incl) OR previously obtained Coach Level 2 

U12/U13

• Hockey Canada Coach 2 – must complete U13 Pathway Module (4 hrs $113.00 tax incl) OR previously obtained Coach Level 2 

U14-U18

• Hockey Canada Coach 2 – must complete U15/18 Pathway Module (4 hrs $113.00 tax incl) OR previously obtained Coach Level 2  

Fees for CDP/Select trainers should be incorporated into the CDP/Select team’s budget.  

We are requiring House League Head Coaches to also take the Trainer course.  The fee for House League Head Coaches will be reimbursed by Faustina; please contact Donna ([email protected]) upon completion of the course.

• Hockey Canada Safety Program – Level 1 (4hrs $28.75 tax incl) or Re-cert Hockey Canada Safety Program  (3 hrs $22.75 tax incl) or previously obtained Hockey Trainer Level 1

Trainer certification will be valid for three years.  Re-certification must be completed prior to the expiry of the current certification.

The new Hockey Canada Safety Program is replacing the old Hockey Trainer Certification Program (HTCP).  Any volunteer that completed the old HTCP program from January 1, 2026 to March 31, 2026 will only be certified for two years instead of three years.
