Faustina intends to ice Select teams from the U10 (Minor Atom) birth year through U21 through our participation in the North York Hockey League. The NYHL is the Select League.
For our U7 to U9 birth years, Faustina is one of the founding clubs of the west end Competitive Development Program (CDP) which provides our House League players with the opportunity to try out for our competitive development teams which will practice together and play competitive games against other clubs who are close to home in the West End. There may be an opportunity for U7-U9 teams to choose to play in the NYHL or the CDP, not both.
Fees for Select vary by team. A typical select team will have fees (in addition to house league) of roughly $1,500 – $2,000. This will depend on the budget designed by coaches and parents AND approved by parents on the team.

Tryouts
Select try-outs are held in early May for U8-U18 and will resume with the start of practices in early September for those teams still looking for players. U7 and U21 tryouts are in September. Dates will be announced on the Select Tryout Page.
Overview – What is Faustina Select Hockey?
The Select division of the Faustina Hockey Club provides an opportunity for House League players to participate in competitive, higher caliber hockey in the North York Hockey League (NYHL) nyhl.on.ca.
All House League players from a particular age group may try out for the Select team.
Teams are formed from the players who try out. Roster selection is up to the discretion of the Select team coaches and management. Team management may choose to designate some players as Alternate Players who can be called up to play games when regular players cannot attend games. Alternate players are entitled to attend practice and there is a lower fee structure for AP players.
Players who are invited to the Select/CDP team play on BOTH a House League team as well as a Select team; a player must play house league in order to play Select/CDP. Therefore there are additional time demands on players and parents.
All players who participate in Select hockey must participate in house league games. Failure to do so will result in suspension from the Select team. The Under 21 team members will play Select only.
Select/CDP teams play approximately 10 games in the fall season which runs from October through December. The NYHL balances the structure of the division tiers during December in an effort to make the tiers more competitive. Teams then play an additional 10 games in the winter season before play offs begin in February or March.
Each year the NYHL features an All-Star Day, when selected players from each team in their tier are chosen to play for a Special All-Star team. They will also receive a medallion or t-shirt to mark their achievement.
When – Schedules

Team management will also advise parents of team schedules. Note that games can be posted with relatively short notice.
Games are played from Sunday through Friday. The Faustina Hockey Club is exempt from Saturday games as this is our house league day. Game times can start from as early as 6:00PM to as late as 10:00PM, for the older divisions. Weekend games typically start as early as 1:00 PM and as late as 10:00PM.

Where – Arenas
NYHL games are played in arenas all over the GTA. Home games can be at Ford Performance Center but can also involve a comfortable commute to the Downsview arena at Wilson and Jane. Some away games can involve a well-planned journey to Pleasantview Arena, or Fenside Arena but can also be as far the Garnet Williams arena in Thornhill or Heron Point Arena in east Scarborough.
Arena locations can be found in various places: the NYHL website, Arenamaps.com or Google maps.
Practices are usually held at the Long Branch arena or Central Arena or at the Ford Performance Centre.
Benefits of Select Hockey
Participation on a Select team provides players:
• additional practice time,
• competition with Select teams from other organizations,
• the opportunity to play on a team with the same players year over year and develop long lasting friendships
Select Fees
Participation in Faustina Select requires a separate fee, in addition to house league fees.
Select fees are due in full when the team roster is chosen in October.
The fee for next season includes:
- Practice ice time (one per week)
- NHYL team fees
- One pair of socks per player
- Team pictures
In addition to these fees, players are responsible for the costs of purchasing Jerseys (players who have jerseys in good condition from the previous year can continue using their existing jerseys).
Costs for any additional exhibition games or tournaments that a team pursues would be covered by the team.
Sponsorship
The Faustina Hockey Club is always looking at ways to offset the expenses of running the Select program, one way is the sponsorship of your child’s team. If you or one of your associates is interested in sponsoring a team please speak to the coach or manager of your Select Team.
When should I be at the Rink?
The NYHL reserves the right to start a game 10 minutes earlier than the posted start time, therefore you should ensure that you leave the house early enough to arrive at the rink at least 30 minutes prior to the posted start time. In is your job to keep your parents on schedule!

What if I can’t make it to the game?
If you are not able to attend a game you should notify your coach at least 24 hours in advance so that an Alternate Player can be called up for the game.
