Required Courses

The following is a summary of required courses for parents, any volunteer who interacts with players, and trainers.

THE SHIFT FORWARD
The Shift Forward program is a mandatory requirement for one parent of each child registered in minor hockey within Canada. The program is an online session that takes a little over an hour to complete and addresses topics such as being a good sport parent, interacting with coaches, officials, and other parents, and concussion awareness.

This course is $11.50 plus tax.

1. Registering as a Volunteer with Faustina (Hockey Canada Requirement)
   All team officials and volunteers over the age of 17 must register as a volunteer with Faustina through Hockey Canada

2. Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) Requirement (Hockey Canada Requirement)
   All team officials and volunteers who interact with kids are required to have a cleared VSC police check result. This document (PDF format only) is valid for three hockey seasons. In addition, every team official and volunteer will complete an annual online OHF Declaration in the OHF Portal.

3. The Shift Forward For Team and On Ice Officials (Hockey Canada Requirement)
   The Shift Forward is an enhanced education program developed through an extensive consultation process with stakeholders across Hockey Canada programs.
   
   This process included a comprehensive national Training Needs Analysis, which identified key opportunities to improve how education and training are delivered across the game.
   
   (2 hrs $30.50 tax incl) OR previously obtained Respect in Sport – Activity Leader

   ** Note: Shift Forward replaces Respect in Sport – Activity Leader. Anyone who previously completed Respect in Sport – Activity Leader can use this course through to the end of the 2027-2028 hockey season.
   
4. Gender Identity and Expression Course (Hockey Canada Requirement)
   (2 hrs – No cost)

Trainer Certification For Select trainers and all House League Coaches (Hockey Canada Requirement)
(4hrs $28.75 tax incl) or Re-cert Hockey Canada Safety Program (3 hrs $22.75 tax incl) or previously obtained Hockey Trainer Level 1
