U9 I.P. Hockey for 7-8 years old
Hockey Canada has mandated a structured Initiation Program (i.P.) pathway for U9 hockey house league programs across Canada.
We have gone to great lengths at Faustina to develop a very fun & structured I.P. program to maximize player development in our House League program – you can find information on rates and dates on our main House League Page.
Program Information
A/B divisional structure. . We combine both the U9 age groups (7 and 8 year old players) into two divisions that are grouped by development (U9A / U9B). At these ages we find there is a wide range of development and the A/B division structure has been very successful and more enjoyable for the players who are just getting started and those who have been skating for a few years.
Evaluation Skate. We will have an evaluation skate in mid-September for players. This evaluation skate steers the division each child starts in. We will move players up or down if needed after the season starts.
Our weekly practices will be station based. We plan on running 3-4 stations per practice with a full season drill plan that we have developed at Faustina for our station leads to follow each week.
Our Saturday game days will be 1/2 ice (North to South on each end) for the first part of the season and then full ice for the second part of the season.
We have purchased 1/2 ice rink dividers for this season to fully enclose the game area.
I.P. Program Parents Meeting
We will be holding an online parents meeting in mid-September to discuss the Hockey Canada I.P. program for U7 and U9 players and to provide information on our program for the season. Please look for an email in September to alert you to save the date for this meeting.
Are you interested in volunteering?
Our Initiation (I.P.) program at Faustina is always an overwhelming success based on parent feedback and player development. If you are interested in volunteering this season please email us at [email protected] (Adult volunteers must take online training courses and complete a police vulnerable sector check VSC). We are also looking for high-school student volunteers to help with the Saturday games. (Ideally, these students are also Faustina players).
